I'm a home-educating parent and the creator of Calm Space Learning. For me, one of the loveliest things about home education has been seeing how naturally learning can happen when children are given the space to follow their interests and curiosity.
I know that learning doesn't always happen at a desk, follow a timetable, or look the way it is expected to. Sometimes it begins with a question, a favourite animal, a place on a map, or simply something that sparks curiosity.
Before becoming a home-educating parent, I worked as a teaching assistant in schools, including supporting children with special educational needs. Between that experience and everything I've learned whilst educating my own children, I've seen just how differently children can engage with learning.
Whilst looking for resources to use with my own children, I struggled to find quite what I wanted. Some felt too formal and worksheet-heavy, whilst others were so colourful and busy that there was almost too much going on. I wanted resources that were interesting and engaging, but also calm, gentle and flexible enough to use in whatever way worked for us.
Eventually, I thought... why not make them myself?
And that's what I did.
At first, I was creating resources for our own home education. Over time, that grew into Calm Space Learning and the collection I now get to share with other families.
The resources I create aren't designed around one particular way of learning or the expectation that every page should be completed. They're there to be explored, adapted, dipped in and out of, and used in whatever way works for your child.
Because ultimately, I want Calm Space Learning to help make learning feel like something a child can discover and enjoy, rather than something they have to get through.
